Why Would You Want a Wall Cabinet

It may be time to evaluate your storage area, and decide what you are going to do about storage cabinets. You want to find a dealer who can provide you with the quality cabinets you need as well as other equipment. One style that customers may neglect to consider is the wall cabinet or wall mounted cabinet. In situations where floor space is scarce and the items being stored are a bit smalled, wall mounted cabinets may be the answer.

These cabinets obviously are so named because they mount to a wall's stud. Please do not mount directly to drywall. Drywall is not meant to be load bearing, unless the load is a small picture frame. A cabinet can be fully loaded with hundreds of pounds of supplies, so please make sure to mount the cabinet as described by the manufacturer. There are many quality manufacturers that produce these items, and I'd like to review some of them for your edification.

Edsal Manufacturing of Chicago Illinois does a fine job throughout the industry providing steel storage equipment at an attractive price point. Sandusky of Ohio similarly produces a line of metal cabinets and lockers in USA that is available through their distribution points nationwide. Parent Metal of Bensalem Pennsylvania produces the stylish wall cabinet in glorious gray or putty. Finally, in considering wall cabinets, don't forget Stronghold, the heavy duty cabinet manufacturer from Kentucky. Of course there are many other manufacturers that produce fine products as well. In any of my articles, specific positive commentary on any vendor should never imply negative commentary on vendors not included.

Wall cabinets are not just for storing office supplies and equipment. There is a whole category of Hazmat and Flammable cabinets as well. If you are storing hazardous materials or flammables, order the correct cabinets. Keep safe while following laws that are in place for your own safety and that of your employees. On the subject of flammable wall cabinets lets consider for a moment how the doors may close. A manually closing door requires a person to close it. This is the least expensive cabinet, but there is an obvious problem with the system. A self closing door is spring loaded with a fusable link holding the door open. When the link gets hot enough, it melts and the doors automatically shut. The action of doors shutting is what puts out the flames. The problem with manually closing doores is that a person has to shut the doors if a fire breaks out in the cabinet. In a fire, I'd prefer to be on mu way to the exit and not surveying the wall mounted flammable cabinets.

Ordering wall cabinets is challenging, do yourself a favor and choose a great dealer

Merry Christmas!!

Add a Breakfast Bar to Your RTA Cabinet Kitchen Design

Wouldn't it be nice to create a small eating bar while installing your new RTA kitchen cabinets? A breakfast bar makes a great place for the family to gather each morning before heading off to work or school, it's simple to keep clean, and if your kitchen opens into your dining or living area, it may be easier to build than you think.

Easy Steps for Building a Breakfast Bar

SHEETROCK PRICES

1. Situate your base cabinets in the open space between the kitchen and living area. The backs of the cabinets will face the living area and provide the foundation for the breakfast bar. Two 36 inch base cabinets work well or you might want to add in a 24 inch cabinet to create an eight foot bar

2. Build a knee wall out of wood framing lumber that backs up to the base cabinets. A knee wall is a short wall that doesn't go up to the ceiling. The knee wall will be the width of the breakfast bar and should extend a little past the base cabinet with the exposed side. The height can vary depending on the bar stools you plan to use, but in most cases the height that works best is 42 inches before the countertop is installed.

3. The knee wall may be considered wall space by many building inspectors so it may need electrical wiring for outlets installed and inspected.

4. Cover the exposed knee wall surfaces with a wall covering of your choice such as sheetrock, paneling, or RTA cabinet end panels.

5. The countertop material used is usually the same as the rest of the kitchen countertops. Opinions vary as to how much overhang your countertop should have on the eating side, but you want enough room so that you can eat comfortably without your knees hitting the wall. In most cases an overhang of 12 to 16 inches works well.

6. The overhang should be supported with brackets that are available at most home improvement stores. Improper support can create a safety hazard with heavy materials such as granite.

7. The countertop backsplash should cover the exposed knee wall on the kitchen side.

These are general guidelines and may vary based on your specific application. If you have any questions or concerns, call in a construction professional.

Kitchen Cabinet Prices - You Don't Have to Pay Exorbitant Prices

What are the kitchen cabinet prices today, and how can you find the best deal on them? It's no secret that cabinets can be very pricey, depending on where you buy from.

prices

First off, this can be very expensive, ranging from a few thousand, to up to 6 figures, for the largest jobs. Obviously, how much you pay will largely depend on how much you need done.

PRICES

The bigger your kitchen, the more cabinets you will need, and the more expensive it will be. However, while they certainly can be quite pricey, there are some methods you can use to save money.

Make sure you buy RTA, if you have at least a decent amount of knowledge working with tools. The reason is, buying RTA (ready to assemble) prevents you from having to pay the labor costs associated with putting the cabinets together, which can be substantial. Therefore, this is one sure way to save as much as possible on kitchen cabinet prices.

Yet another is to only buy used appliances, and obviously, the level of quality will vary tremendously with these. RTA typically are a better buy, since you are getting brand new quality but for used prices, so I would recommend you focus on these.

Also, don't ever buy at your local home improvement store, as this is a sure way of paying the most expensive kitchen cabinet prices possible. Sure, it's convenient, and you can see the cabinets.

However, you are paying the retail store markup price. Not only that, but if they don't have the particular cabinet you want, you will have to custom order it, which is even more costly.

I would recommend you focus on the internet, and then buy RTA. When you take advantage of these two factors, you are assuring yourself as cheap of kitchen cabinet prices as you can get.

Also, don't forget to check your current models and see if you can't just refinish them and save yourself from having to buy completely new appliances. Many times people think they need new cabinets, when it would just take a simple face lift to their current ones.

The reality is, I can't give you an exact estimate of how much you will pay. Even if I knew how big your kitchen is, I still don't know the kind of wood you want to get, or whether you want to get stainless steel, glass, etc.

All these factors have a big impact on the kitchen cabinet prices you pay. However, when you use the above tips, regardless of which material you get, you know you are paying as little as possible.
