Painting Business - How to Get Confidence and Credibility Quickly

First of all, when you walk up to someone's door, you want to look like you own your own painting business. You want to have your painters pants on and even your estimating tools. It's also good business to be clean shaven and neat in appearance.

Also having your own painting vehicle helps but it is not necessary when first starting out. When I first started painting I worked out of my beater Oldsmobile that was a big old boat. A 1979 98 Regency. People didn't seem to care or even notice what I drove. They just wanted painting done and my prices back then were cheaper which they loved.

That's all you really have to do to get established is to look like you're ready to do some painting with your painter's pants on and some basic painting tools to get started with. You don't need any specialize literature or forms.

In time you'll have your own painting truck and and the most important part of all you will have some good quality referrals from satisfied customers. This is what will get you a lot of work plus instant credibility. Don't forget that you'll also get repeat business from your existing customers.

Some will like you to think that you need a lot of special paper work or forms to run a painting business. I basically use one special form and that is for estimating. I use this form to do commercial and residential painting. I like to keep it all simple.

Painting is just like any other small service business. You learn as you go. There are speed tips and tricks to the trade just like any other trade. There are painters that shouldn't be painters because their work is really bad.

One secret to a successful painting business is to develop a reliable painting business partnership and then do quality work for people together. You can work alone but there are many advantages to having a partner of two like turning your jobs faster.

If you enjoy your work you'll never work a day in your life. I remember looking forward to Monday mornings sitting in Sunday school before church. I could hardly wait to get started on Monday morning on that new project I just got a down payment on.

I love to paint I love doing restoration work and every day goes by super fast because I love what I do. There's is nothing that beats being self-employed. You don't have to worry about being laid off, you can make as much money as you dare to dream and there is no boundaries or ceilings on your abilities or opportunities.

There are a lot of great additional service to add to a painting business also like faux painting, window washing, drywall repair, bathtub refinishing, light carpentry work, etc. These can all be added on a little bit at a time if need be.

Again you'll instantly have credibility if you just look like you are a painter. You don't need a fancy paint truck in the beginning although it does help tool-wise. It will all fit together in time. Just a few basic tools and a desire to own your own business is the big issue here.

When I first started painting I did not know how to estimate. My first commercial job scared me to death and it was a simple job. One thing that really helps you to gain instant credibility is to have your confidence up. You can do this by knowing how to estimate your painting jobs.

I can go in and estimate an interior or exterior job in a relatively short period of time and I look like I know what I am doing. And when I walk away I have confidence and I know that I did a good painting estimate and that I will make money.

Getting all the techniques and tricks of the trade down is something you learn a little bit from each job. In time you will be able to master things like drywall repair, the fastest ways to get your prep work done, your own quick system for painting a room, painting windows and doors, etc.

Many people make starting a painting business look difficult because they get a case of what is called "detail-itis" (the failures disease). When a project comes along and I am uncertain how I am going to get it done I don't worry about it because the answers fall in place as I do the work.

Build a Homemade Solar Water Heater Quickly and Easily With Solar Hot Water Kits

Did you ever want to construct a solar water heater? Luckily there are kits and plans that can help you start building your water heater that runs on solar power. With the advancement of technology, you can now build water heater powered by the sun, an idea once thought impossible. Building a heater that runs on natural energy can be beneficial both to the environment and to your wallet. The prices of gas and electric bills have steadily risen, and people are starting to try find ways to reduce the prices of their utilities. The prices of heating bills and gas bills vary anywhere from for small apartments to 0s and even 00s for larger structures such as homes and buildings.

When building a solar water heater, there are a couple of parts that you will need. One of the most complex and crucial parts is the solar panel. The solar panel is complex because it changes the energy of the sun into electrical power. Without there will be no power to heat the water. Solar panels can be bought in stores or ordered online. The prices online will mostly be the cheaper of the two. If you are on a very tight budget and are mechanically inclined, you can try to construct your own solar panel. This a rather complicated process and I would not recommend anyone doing unless they have a guide or solar hot water kits.

There are some smaller things you will need such as metal pipes and wires. However I recommend getting a book, guide, or blueprint that can help you build a homemade solar water heater.

Selling a Home Quickly in a Buyer's Market

Selling a home can be incredibly stressful and difficult, especially if you need to do it quickly. It's possible that some houses in some markets in this country could linger on Multi-lists for years!

So, what should you do?

SHEETROCK

The first thing you should do is clean out the house. Have a garage sale, rent a storage space, and throw out most of your stuff. Just get the stuff out of the building. How far should you go? There should not be anything on the floor of any closet in your house and all rooms and closets should feel a little empty. Clean and make any repairs needed to get a good well-maintained appearance. Then depersonalize the house so that it starts to look like an upscale hotel room.

Make rooms look like what people expect. People expect to see living rooms, bedrooms, dens, dining rooms and kitchens. If you have some extra rooms you can have offices, playrooms, media rooms, etc., but only after you have fulfilled basic expectations. In a living room or den you should have a sofa, two chairs (or a loveseat) and a TV grouped toward the focal point (usually a TV or fireplace, sometimes a view). U shaped groupings or L shaped groupings work fairly well in most rooms. If you have a really big room remember groupings of furniture should fit into roughly 12-foot square groups. Bedrooms should have beds and 2 bedside tables in groupings opposite the entry door if possible. If the room is small, don't have any more furniture.

Then get fresh, clean paint on everything you can. It's not that hard to get to be a good painter. It just takes practice. You want your house to look new to a buyer. Fresh paint can make it look and smell newer. People want houses with lots of light so choose a light, pale, warm color. Relocation companies buy thousands of gallons of gallons of ivory paint a year and paint over the "custom" paint jobs people put in houses. They know it helps resale to have clean paint.

In a house with white trim work a color that contrasts enough to show off the trim. Pale blue or green can be great, especially in hot climates. Fancy trim work is an upgrade in any house and works better than over done décor because it has an architectural look as opposed to decoration.

Get heavy, lined drapery panels that run from ceiling to floor for living rooms, dining rooms, and master bedrooms. Hang them so that the panels leave the glass completely exposed and mostly hang on the walls next to the windows. It's a trick that makes your windows look bigger. Other rooms look less cluttered with shades or blinds for privacy if needed.

Skip wallpaper. Many buyers don't like it. If you have it in your house, get rid of it. If you can't get it off the wall, consider bead board (painted) or stone as long as it is not dark colored...or even new sheetrock. It is not that hard to finish sheetrock and it comes in ¼" thickness.

Then we come to the MOST IMPORTANT part of the process. Clean up the yard and the front of the house. Then do everything you can to make your home attractive from the outside. Why is this the MOST IMPORTANT? If buyers don't come inside you will never sell your house. It MUST look attractive enough on the outside to bring in buyers. Over the top wonderful is great. Cute houses may be hard to define, but as a general rule buyers like some rock, framed out windows, more than one color and landscaping. If you don't have a cute porch or portico, adding one can do wonders. Even a pergola can work. You might get the best advice from landscapers. The money you spend here may pay off better than any remodeling.

So you have the house ready and it's looking as good as you can make it look. The next thing you can do is all about marketing and advertising. Let all your neighbors know your house is for sale. If they like the neighborhood they will look for their own new neighbor among their friends! It's in their best interest and yours, too.

Go through your house with a very critical eye. NEVER assume a buyer can see potential through imperfections, even if they only involve removing too much furniture or stuff. Happy selling!
